Holla is filled with messages. From "Time to Quit Acting A Fool" to the controversial "Who's My Daddy?," the Shades talk to us about life, love, family, and getting our lives together. The music will almost make you forget the message, but the lyrics on the songs, keep the message in the forefront of your mind. The vocals on this CD are amazing. Scott stretches his vocal range farther than he ever has. When asked why they included "Who's My Daddy?," Bender Davis states, "It's just a message to let kids know that they don't have to throw their lives away, no matter how they were raised. That's really what the whole CD is about. "Don't Throw Your Life Away" is a gospel tinged ballad that Scott and Grace just show out on. DM Adkins was asked what was the inspiration behind the song. She stated, "I was in downtown Southern Ivy. I was walking and I passed two young ladies standing on the bus stop. One of them said, 'I ain't got no kinda life. I ain't got nothing to live for.' That broke my heart. I went home and penned that song. It is a song about hope." This CD features guest artist such as DM Adkins and the DM Chorale, Alexander Lewis, Messiah Brandon, and Brilliant the Rapper. |
