Greggy G was born Gregory Taylor Spencer.  He began rapping at the age of 12.  He met Brilliant the Rapper in 1992 at a local talent showcase. Brilliant liked Greggy G's style and encouraged Greggy G.

Gregory wanted to drop out of school in 1994.  His mother called Brilliant and asked him to talk to Gregory.  Brilliant did just that.  Brilliant told Gregory that if he stayed in school and graduated, he would introduce Greggy G to Tony Sindelar, a top music manager in the industry. Tony was Brilliant's manager.

Gregory did well for a year, and then wanted to quit school because he had failed a class and would have to repeat it in summer school. Again, Greggy G's mother called Brilliant. This time Brilliant had a long talk with Greggy G about the music industry.  Brilliant made sure to tell Greggy G quite a few horror stories.  Greggy G went back to school and graduated #10 in a class of 421 from Carrington East High School in the city of Carrington.

True to his word, Brilliant introduced Greggy G to Tony Sindelar.  Tony worked with Greggy G and then presented Greggy G to Alexander Lewis of K-3080 Records.  Greggy G signed with K-3080 in 1997.
